Will Search – What is it, Who Uses it and Why?

As well as members of the SWW, Will searches are conducted by law firms, financial organisations and members of the public. The National Will Register search service (powered by Certainty) has millions of Wills already within its system and Wills are registered at the rate of one a second during peak time in 2013.

As a way of helping prove the last Will, the register is invaluable. It also helps protect against claims of negligence brought when the estate is distributed on an assumed intestacy basis.

The fee of £33 is an allowable disbursement to the estate. SWW members can also search for Wills which have not been registered using the Combined Will Search.
